Entertainment and After Hours

When the sun set behind the mountain, volunteers would appear from nowhere and congregate with bottles of vodka. On Wednesday nights it was off on the bus with the wipe-clean seats to a disco at nearby Kibbutz Ramat David. On Friday nights it was 'Disco Night' and the pub would open late and close later. On most other nights there would be some sort of party. We definitely made our own fun.

There were so many genuinely inspired party themes - fancy dress, cross-dressing, silly-hat night, girls night, boys night. My favourite was the hundred club, pictured below whilst most people were still conscious. The hundred club is that old favourite where you drink one hundred film cannisters of beer, every minute for a hundred minutes. Looking back now - how did no-one die from this?! (They stole nappies from the old people's home and cheated, I suspect).

Volunteers warming up for the first official '100 Club' bought to Shaar Haamakim by some mad bloke from Tasmania - Dave, was it you?!

Halloween was also a great favourite - it's amazing what costume ideas you come up with when you have to make it yourself and don't have any money to get materials.

Some nights were a bit quieter - you can't beat a camp fire and a singalong when you're still hungover (and have to get up at 6am). I was always really impressed by how many Kibbutzniks we managed to get to join in!

Music and madness in the Top House. That's Rich on guitar - he was really good!

For the nights when you really had to rest your liver - there was always the 'quiet night in' for journal and letter writing.
